Town Centre: On Datca’s main street are to be found the usual amenities, banks, post office, chemists, medical centre, doctors, dentists, supermarkets and tourist shops, together with wonderful carpet shops (the prices here are much cheaper than in the big resorts like Bodrum and Marmaris), a few gold shops (gold is sold by weight and without tax). However, Datca still retains the character and ‘feel’ of a traditional Turkish fishing village/small ‘town’. Every Saturday there is the bazaar for the local people – full of real character and genuine bargains - well worth a visit. Datça itself is delightful with a cosmopolitan feel and lively bars and restaurants around the harbour in high season, frequented by the boating fraternity of all nationalities. Children are welcome everywhere and Turkish and visiting families eat and promenade together along the iskele (harbour) and centrum (centre). The local fishermen sell their catch on the harbour direct from the boats or from stalls near the PTT (Post Office). Local fresh produce is in abundance together with fresh ‘village’ eggs, herbs and the famous local honey.

Datca Harbour: At night the area by the town beach promenade lined with restaurants is full of stalls with fairylights in the trees and tables and chairs on the beach. The beaches are ‘blue flag’ surrounded by houses and new build developments in quiet and peaceful locations near the shore. You are never far from the sea here and it is magic to sit on your balcony late at night, sipping a cool drink, looking over the shoreline at twinkling lights in the darkness, hearing the sound of cicadas and the imam calling the faithful to prayer at the end of the day.
